One of the most appealing factors of the C2C ride is that it can be split up into different chunks, meaning that it can be tackled from a leisurely 5 day jaunt to a single rear-end numbing day (the record is said to be under 9 hours !). The majority of people however take 3 days allowing time to enjoy both the ride and the surrounding areas.
Almost any road worthy bike is suitable; the route has actually been completed on unicycles! However for anyone wishing to tackle the specialist off-road sections proper mountain bikes (with appropriate tyres) are recommended.
There is an abundance of good accommodation along the route (who cater specifically for cyclists); the official C2C site (see links page) is always a good place to start. It is a great place to plan any C2C trip and can offer all sorts of advice. I managed to find all my accommodation from it and only needed the Official Sustrans Map as my only other source of information prior to tackling the route.
